Jersey Shore Will Be Shooting It’s Fourth Season in Italy

Yes, yesss, y’all — the rumors on TMZ are true. “Jersey Shore” will be shooting its fourth season in ITALY! According to an official hot-off-the-press release from our employer, the entire cast and crew of MTV’s wildly popular hit show will be trading in their shot-filled road trips to Seaside Heights for a sure-to-be mini bottle-laden plane ride to their homeland.

While “Jersey Shore” is a popular program internationally, there are bound to be plenty of people oblivious to “The Situation” and his colorful cronies, as well as the circus of debauchery they bring with them to every locale. Who knows how the OGs of Italy will react to our self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes? Luckily, Vinny‘s got some relatives (wait, there’s more of them?!) who’ll be nearby to offer up heaps of comfort food and some guidance on the cultural ways of “the old country.”

The show is slated to film in spring 2011 and air later on this year.

“While the stateside ‘Jersey Shore’ locales have become iconic for our audience, it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic among the cast that keeps them coming back each season, and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us,” said Chris Linn, executive vice president of programming and head of production for MTV. “The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.”

Thank you, MTV, for supplying Remote Control with endless “Jersey Shore” scoops. And thank you, as always, to the cast for simply being you. Let’s all raise a glass of RonRon Juice Chianti and say together now: Salute!

FYI: Grenade in Italian is “granata.”

Court Ruling Could Mean Millions in Online Royalties for Eminem & Other Artists

this is the most exciting shit i’ve heard recently.

I really hope this passes.

Written September 3rd. By Brian Mccollum

Eminem probably thought he’d be waking up this morning to focus entirely on his concert tonight at Comerica Park.

Instead he got a bit of unexpected news from a federal appeals court in California: some major money could be headed his way.

The decision, which one Eminem attorney calls an “earthquake” for the music industry, could transform the online song business and boost the fortunes of untold numbers of artists.

Reversing a lower-court jury decision from last year, the court ruled that Eminem and his production company are entitled to nearly triple the royalties they’ve been receiving for track sales and ringtones on online services such as iTunes.

For Eminem, who has sold more than 6 million downloads this year alone, that could mean tens of millions of dollars in new income.

Universal Music Group, the defendant in the case, said this afternoon it will petition for a rehearing.

The suit was filed by Ferndale’s FBT Productions, which administered Eminem’s record deal with Universal.

Today’s ruling could have fallout in the evolving world of digital music, experts said, pushing other artists to negotiate with their labels for higher online royalty rates. It could even pave the way for some holdouts, including Detroit’s Bob Seger, to finally offer their songs online.

The decision

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously reversed a 2009 federal jury decision in a lawsuit filed by Ferndale’s FBT Productions, Eminem’s former production company, against his label, Aftermath Records. The jury had ruled in favor of Aftermath and its parent company, Universal Music Group.

Eminem was not a direct party in the suit, but he benefits through FBT, which shares his contract with Universal.

“This potentially readjusts the economics between the artist and the record company, and that’s been long overdue,” said FBT’s Joel Martin. “It puts Eminem in a position he should have been in to begin with, which is to receive a larger portion of the download royalties.”

The suit sought damages for songs and ringtones sold via iTunes and other online services, claiming that Universal had applied an improper royalties scheme. Eminem is one of the era’s top-selling digital artists. Song download sales from this year’s “Recovery” album top 6.3 million, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Universal argued that Eminem should be paid a standard 18% royalty rate for those sales, as he is for physical copies. FBT contended that providing a song to iTunes was actually a third-party licensing situation, similar to film and television deals, which calls for a 50% royalty rate.

The appeals court has agreed with FBT, reversing the jury’s decision and sending the case back to the lower court for a damages trial.

It also vacated the lower court’s order that FBT pay $2.4 million in attorneys fees to Aftermath.

Universal said it will petition for a rehearing.

“In the meantime, it should be noted that this ruling sets no legal precedent as it only concerns the language of one specific recording agreement,” Universal spokesman Peter Lofrumento wrote in a statement.

Real-world effects

But Gary Stiffelman, a Los Angeles attorney who has represented Michael Jackson, Eminem and other acts, said the ruling could nevertheless have practical consequences.

“If downloads are the way of the future, this is going to have massive implications,” said Stiffelman. “It changes the playing field.”

Though the suit centered on details in Eminem’s contract, the basic principles involved could be relevant for other acts, especially those with deals made prior to the advent of digital downloading. Stiffelman and other experts said most newer artists have contracts that specify compensation for downloads.

The central question: When a label provides a track to an online distributor such as iTunes, is it licensing the song rather than selling retail copies?

In Eminem’s case, the appeals court wrote in its ruling that yes, “the transaction is a license,” a conclusion it said is supported by federal copyright law.

While iTunes and other online services have grabbed a greater share of the music market, some high-profile artists have declined to jump aboard.

Among them is Detroit rocker Bob Seger. His manager, Punch Andrews, said the ruling “absolutely” clears the way for Seger’s songs to be sold online.

Andrews, who called the decision “staggering,” said “every musician should read these 10 pages. It affects everyone.”

The Motown Alumni Association, whose membership includes Martha Reeves and the Four Tops, had filed an amicus brief on FBT’s behalf.

“All the Motown artists who now receive a penny (per download) may be in a position to negotiate a new royalty because of this decision,” said Martin.

Older acts are most poised to be helped by the ruling, said Daniel Hoops, a Walsh College law instructor who has represented Detroit musicians such as Derrick May.

For emerging artists, the online music world “isn’t as much the Wild West that it was a few years ago,” said Hoops. “It’s going to be the legacy artists who find holes in their agreement who could benefit from this.”

Thoughts For The Mind Pt. 3 “Self-Importance” + Song Of The Day 7/09/10- BIG K.R.I.T. “Good Enough”

so people have been asking me recently what makes my blog so special.. and i dont really know how to answer that. its been doing really well, but i dont think i’ve been showing enough of myself to the readers. A lot of people appreciate me for being kind, caring, loyal, honest, and funny. But i dont really show too much of my personality on here. I figure i’m giving everyone what they want to read or hear or watch and its stuff that i also like. You wont see me post some shit that i dont like just to get views, thats not me. But i also have a personal side on this blog. I’ve posted a few Thoughts For The Mind entries, along with Songs of The Day, The Daily Random, Album of The Week which all relate to my mood or things that are going through my head. Don’t take these entries as truly being random, because they aren’t, at all. I’ll start to explain why I feel like those songs or posts or randoms relate, or just quote things from the album or songs that do relate to the way I’m feeling.

anyway, I’ve been open to opinions and criticism and basically everyone has been saying the same thing “Show more of your true self.. give more opinions, more thoughts.. let everyone know the real you.” For those who are interested in some other persons thoughts.. I’ll really try to give you more of mine. Since I’m basically the shit and all, and i know all of you are just dying to hear what i have to say, I won’t hold back any longer. lolol. but yes.. more Thoughts For The Mind.. more explanations into my songs.. more thoughts on some of the music I post. i can’t rate every track nor do i intend to give you a major in-depth analysis for every song or album i post. That would be impossible, and that’s not my job. I give you the music that I LIKE, that interests ME, and YOU decide whether or not YOU like it. Just  because i say something is great or whack, it doesn’t mean you think the same thing.. and if i thought it was complete trash i wouldn’t post it. That’s why i don’t post many mainstream things other blogs post.. because I don’t want to trash my shit with that garbage. (pun intended)

My plans.. to start hosting shows. Soon you’ll see me on the stage hosting shows and promoting the music that i absolutely LOVE. i cannot wait. It is going to be an amazing experience, and hopefully it’ll be something that artists ask me to do for them. Although i do have fear speaking in front of large crowds, it is something i need to face and get the fuck over, and hosting shows is exactly the way i want to go about that. So when i start hosting shows, I’d REALLY appreciate it if people came out to support. I promise i won’t ask you to be some place you wouldn’t enjoy yourself at.

now i’d like to talk about something that i find very very very very very important to talk about and that my friends, is something called self importance (perfect word for someone who thinks they are more important than they actually are, word provided to me by j.wes, thanks). anyway. there are many many many people in this world who are self important as fuck. Some people who really don’t do shit think they are Obama. I’m not talking shit or taking shots at people, but there are tons of people like this, and im sure you can think of 10 people off the top of your head who make themselves more important than they really are.. hopefully none of those people include me. I’ve been told that i think i’m more important than i am, because of my blog, but I don’t want people to get things twisted. i love my blog, and when it does great, i’m proud of myself. I found something that i like to do, and a lot of people appreciate it. Now, because of this, i DO NOT think that i am able to do whatever else i want. I mentioned earlier that i will probably be hosting shows soon, but that is because it is something that i would be great for since i am so outgoing and energetic. If i am offered to do something I am not good at, i will not accept the offer, because i know there is someone out there that can do that job better than i can, especially if it is something i know nothing about. Just because i have this blog, it does not mean I think i am Princess Diana (RIP). I am Amy. That is who i am and who i always will be. I do not try to be anything outside of myself, and i certainly do not want to be anything less. If i was offered a job to do construction, i would not take it. If i was offered a job to be a professor, or a historian, i would take it. I’m an important fucking person, but i don’t think i should be sittin on a throne by any means.

thank you.

oh yeah, in addition to everything i just said i’d just like to shout out my BLAT! PACK fam. They truly hold it down and are always there for me when i need them. They are truly truly family. I love each and every member with all my heart. BLAT consists of the most amazing people i’ve ever met in my entire life. i LOVE you guys! Thank you for giving me the opportunities that you have given me. I really really appreciate it.

and i’ll leave you with this- my song of the day to show you exactly how i’m feeling.

BIG KRIT- “Good Enough”

chasin dreams that i can barely see.. shootin for the stars when its something i can never be, maybe all the flash wasn’t meant for me.. maybe i’m too real for this industry, i sit alone in this 4 cornered room, writin about life and how it goes too soon..

i cant keep worrying about the things in my life i cant change, dear lord give me the strength to fight the evil in this game, i close my eyes and get down on my knees, pray to the heavens protect my family.. thats good enough for me.
